Bobotie

BOBOTIE (obtained from unknown source)

Serves

4 to 6 persons

Ingredients

  1. 1 kg minced beef or mutton
  2. 1 slice white bread
  3. 250 ml milk
  4. 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  5. 125 ml seedless raisins
  6. 125 ml blanched almonds
  7. 15 ml apricot jam
  8. 15 ml fruit chutney
  9. 25 ml lemon juice
  10. 5 ml chopped mixed herbs
  11. 10 ml curry powder
  12. 5 ml turmeric
  13. 10 ml salt
  14. 10 ml oil
  15. 3 eggs
  16. 4 bay leaves

Directions

  1. Soak bread in 125 ml milk, squeeze bry, and mix with mince.
  2. Mix in all other ingredients except remaining milk, oil, eggs, and bay leaves.
  3. Heat oil in a frying pan and brown meat mixture lightly.
  4. Turn out into a casserole.
  5. Beat eggs with remaining milk and pour over meat.
  6. Garnish with bay leaves and bake at 180C until set.

Serving Suggestion

Serve with yellow rice.
